Part of the Dogviser Social Impact Ecosystem™

Golden Companion Project™

Companionship today. Protection for tomorrow

Golden Companion Project™ helps older adults explore compatible canine companionship with practical planning for everyday support, emergencies, and the dog’s lifetime protection.

The need

How the Right Dog Can Support a Healthier and More Meaningful Life

For an older adult living alone, a dog may be a meaningful part of daily life. It also brings responsibilities that should be planned honestly: veterinary care, exercise, travel, changes in mobility, and what happens if circumstances change.

The project treats the dog and the person as one relationship. It does not promise to prevent loneliness or replace family, medical, or social care. It helps families ask better questions before and during the relationship.

  • The Certified Dogviser™ at the center: Every program is designed, delivered, and supervised by a trained professional who guides, educates, organizes, connects, and supports.
  • Dog welfare governs: Animal welfare and participant safety must always come before placement goals.
  • Open to everyone: Volunteers, mentors, sponsors, and donors can participate. Participation does not require buying anything.
The Dogviser™ role

The warm front door between a dog family and everything their dog needs.

The Certified Dogviser™ reviews lifestyle, environment, mobility, support people, dog needs, and future contingencies. They organize the care plan, connect the family to professionals, and help maintain a practical follow-up rhythm.

The Dogviser™ does not replace veterinarians, medical professionals, attorneys, or financial advisers. They organize the journey and connect people with the correct specialists.

What the program provides

Practical support, with the edges kept clear

Compatibility Planning
A realistic look at size, energy, temperament, routines, care capacity, and the person’s support network.
Everyday Assistance Map
A written plan for walks, food, veterinary visits, transport, emergencies, and periods when the primary caregiver needs help.
Lifetime Protection
A documented conversation about who can care for the dog if the person becomes unable to do so, without promising a placement that has not been agreed.

How it works

From first conversation to thoughtful follow-up

The process is designed to make the right next step visible. Sometimes that next step is to pause, refer, or say no

Start With The Whole Picture

The person and family describe everyday life, hopes, limits, and support.

Match Carefully

The Dogviser™ considers what the dog needs as well as what the person wants.

Build Practical Support

Family, dog professionals, veterinarians, and community resources are mapped.

Begin At The Right Pace

Adaptation happens gradually, with room to pause or change direction.

Review The Plan

The care and protection plan evolves with the person and the dog.

What research suggests

Stay curious. Stay honest

Public health and veterinary resources describe potential associations between pets, companionship, activity, and well-being. These associations do not establish a guaranteed outcome and do not remove the need for professional, social, or family support.

A dog is not a care plan by itself. The relationship works best when practical support exists around both the person and the dog.

Who this program supports
  • Older adults considering a dog
  • Families planning for changing care capacity
  • Seniors living alone and their families
  • Community partners supporting aging with dignity
Responsible participation & dog welfare

Care is a condition, not a claim

  • Animal welfare and participant safety must always come before placement goals.
  • The person’s support network must be real, available, and willing—not just assumed.
  • If a dog’s needs cannot be met reliably, the responsible decision may be not to proceed.
